OUTSTANDING  CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The  Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2008 Outstanding  Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on January 13,  2009 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.

In  the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Public/Institutional,  one of the winners is the Allen County Public Library located in Fort Wayne,  Indiana.

The  project team is the Project Owner:  Allen County Public Library, the  Engineering Firm: MSKTD & Assoc., the  General Contractor, W.A. Sheets &  Sons and the Concrete finisher:  Brooks Construction Co., Inc., and the Ready Mix Producer: Erie Haven, Inc.

The  library is the Central Library in Allen County. The exterior concrete serves as  a decorative enhanced sidewalk surrounding the entire building. This concrete  also serves as a sidewalk used by the city of Ft. Wayne. This project used hand  jointing in two foot squares, which has heated coils in the concrete for snow  and ice melting. The mix was a 25 percent slag with a 4,000 psi mix. This  project was the largest decorative concrete project in the Ft. Wayne Area in  2006/200707 and used 1,500 cubic yards of concrete.

IRMCA  presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of  concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects,  engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
