| OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Cloverdale, Indiana The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2008 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on January 13, 2009 at the Indianapolis East Marriott. In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Industrial Projects, one of the winners is the Altra Indiana Ethanol Plant located in Cloverdale, Indiana. The project team is the owner/developer: Altra Indiana LLC, the General Contractor: F.A. Wilhelm Construction, and the ready mix producer: Irving Materials, Inc. This Design Build project was a tremendous asset to west central Indiana and not only did it create fifty news jobs for Putnam County, it also employed several hundred workers during the construction phase. The first pour was placed on October 2006 and the last pour was placed in June 2008, with 2346 trips – only three being rejected because of time restraints. Not one strength test broke low on this project. There were slabs on grade, slabs on metal deck foundations, curbs, walls, bin bases, sloped tank floors, machinery bases – they did it all! While most pours were handled by two plants, the largest pour of 1,200 yards was supplied by four plants using twenty-four trucks. With the shortest travel time of thirty two minutes and the longest - forty five minutes - they were able to maintain 200 yards per hour throughout the pour – leaving a smile on every face involved. IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. | | |
