The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2005 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 13, 2005 at the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects Patterned/Decorative Category, one of the winning projects was the Bahari Wave Pool located in Southwest Indiana. Recipients included the following individuals and/or organizations: Holiday World & Splashin' Safari, Aquatic Development, Creative Concrete Construction and IMI Southwest, Inc.
Bahari added six acres to Splashin' Safari, more than 50,000 sq ft of beach area (colored), ¾ to 1 acres of pool area with a capacity of 1,100 plus guests. It was a $2.1 million part of the $6.3 million expansion project for 2005.The Bahari Wave Pool features many unique concrete applications that created an extraordinary visual experience for guests and provided a safe decking surface that is smoother and cooler to walk on in bare feet.
The project featured distinctive Shot Crete sculptured stone walls and one-of-a-kind Tiki-style statues that spray water into the wave pool. The multicolored decking surface features two distinct patterns with embedded colors that allow guests to easily distinguish seating areas from walkways. A project of this magnitude clearly displayed the quality and durability that Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari look for when choosing their construction materials. The finished product displays a look that has set a new standard in the water park industry. Throughout the summer, Holiday World has received numerous compliments on the look and design of the new wave pool and requests for information on how to acquire the same finished product for both home and commercial applications.
