OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to
Holiday World & Splashin' Safari for Bahari River
The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2006 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 5, 2006 at the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Patterned/Decorative, Holiday World & Splashin' Safari won for their Bahari River, a themed action river including a canyon with a waterfall, spray tunnels and other spray elements.
The project team for the Bahari River at Holiday World Project is the owner: Holiday World & Splashin' Safari, the engineering and architectural firm: Midwestern Engineers, Inc., the general contractor and concrete finisher: Creative Concrete Construction and the Ready mix producer was: IMI Southwest, Inc.
The Tall Timber Tan colored shotcrete was used to carve sections to look like mountain rocks. Later, highlighting was done to make shadow effects. Nine -1/2 bag regular pea gravel shotcrete was used for a base, with a 9-1/2 bag color (Tall Timber Tan) shotcrete over the top. A total of 670 cubic yards was used in this project. The river is 1,100’ long, 20’ wide, and 28” deep.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
