In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Cast-In-Place, the winning project was the Ball State University McKinley Avenue Parking Garage located in the Muncie, Indiana area. Recipients included the following individuals and/or organizations: Ball State University, Fink, Roberts & Petrie, Ratio Architects, Weigand Construction and Irving Materials, Inc . This project at Ball State University was the erection of the McKinley Avenue Parking Garage. The garage’s most unique feature is its design features. At first glance, this structure’s façade is one that does not appear to be a parking structure at all. The architectural design of the garage’s corner stair enclosures and elevators and the use of brick veneers and limestone turn this parking garage into a beautiful addition to Ball State University’s campus. The cast in place post-tension garages, although initially costing more, require less maintenance. The use of microsilica in all the decks should keep maintenance to a minimum over the life of the structure. The project used 7,269 cubic yards of concrete. |
