OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to the City of Fort Wayne, Public Works Department
for the Broadway and Rudisill Boulevard Project
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2006 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 5, 2006 at the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Infrastructure Projects – Whitetopping, the winning project is the Broadway and Rudisill Boulevard Project. The project team for Broadway & Rudisill Boulevard project is the: City of Fort Wayne, Public Works Department, the City of Fort Wayne, the General Contractor: Indiana Concrete Services, and the ready mix producer: Erie Haven, Inc.
Asphalt was failing at this intersection and the Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association had a meeting with city officials to discuss the benefits of whitetopping. The city made the decision to try the whitetopping on this particular project. One of the challenges of the project was that this is a very busy intersection and the contractor had to place sections, while allowing traffic to continue.
Once this project proves itself to the city, it will open the door to many concrete intersections being placed with concrete. The success of this project will definitely have an impact on the concrete marketplace in the Fort Wayne area.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
