OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
Presented to
Berry Plastics and the Shoe Carnival Distribution Center
in Vanderburg County
The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Commercial Building Projects, BCKK won for their Berry Plastics Distribution Center, located in Vanderburg County. The project team is the developer: BCKK (or The Kunkel Group – a group of local leaders), the Engineering firm: Con/Steel Alliance (tilt walls), the Architectural firm: BCKK, the General contractor: BCKK, the Concrete Finisher: Superior Concrete Constructors, Inc. and the ready mix producer: Meuth Concrete.
This building was constructed using 600,000 square feet of floor area and 142,000 square feet of tilt-up walls. The job was awarded to Superior Concrete as a “Design Build Tilt Wall.” Superior was given the go ahead to design the second week of April; by the first week of May, footings were started. The 20th of May the first floor was poured; the last floor pour was made on July 10th. This is the largest to-date tilt-up wall project in Vanderburgh County. A total of 18,442.50 cubic yards of concrete was used. Using a design/build concrete subcontractor for tilt-up walls is unique.
Also winning in this category was Bigshoe Properties for the Shoe Carnival Distribution Center located in Vanderburg County. The project team is the owner/developer: Bigshoe Properties, the Engineering firm: Morley & Associates, the Architectural Firm: American Structurepoint, the General contractor: Woodword Development; the concrete finisher: Superior Concrete Constructors and the ready mix producer: Meuth Concrete.
The project consisted of a 410,000 square foot warehouse facility, including all perimeter and interior foundations and slabs. Included was an 800 linear foot dock wall with 60 dock leveling pits. After showing the client the benefit of concrete paving life cycle cost, we converted 290,000 square feet of asphalt to six inches of concrete paving. Superior Concrete also offered value engineering savings in use of 1400 l/f of integral 12” tall roll curb in lieu of truck parking bumpers. A 3-D Laser Screed Technology was used by Super Concrete Constructors. A total of 17,041.25 cubic yards was used in this project.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. |
