In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial, Public/Institutional, one of the winning projects was the Birck Nanotechnology Center in West Lafayette, Indiana. Recipients included the following individuals and/or organizations: Purdue University, HDR, Pepper Construction and Irving Materials, Inc.
Nanotechnology is derived by the word Nano, meaning one-billionth. This building itself consists of nearly 10,000 yards of concrete and utilized new technology in vibration dampening concrete. This project incorporated the use of new technology in the concrete market by using Concredamp Admixture. With more and more nano science to nanotechnology, this product will probably be used in other new buildings. A total of 9600 cubic yards of concrete was used in this two year project. This facility has NIST A-1 low vibration laboratories and thus required a vibration dampening admixture. Concredamp is a concrete additive that reduces noise, shock, vibration and permeability in concrete.
