OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.

In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Commercial Building Projects, Cabela’s Retail Incorporated won for their Cabela’s Retail Store, located in Hammond.

The project team is the owner/developer: Cabela’s Retail Incorporated, the Engineering firm: Center Point Engineering, Inc., the Architectural Firm: Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Assoc., Inc., the General Contractor: Kraus-Anderson Construction Co., the Concrete Finisher: Gough, Inc, the Concrete was ground, stained, sealed and polished by: Concrete Treatments, Inc. and the ready mix producer: Ozinga Indiana RMC, Inc.

The floors and aisle concrete walkways were ground, stained, sealed and then polished which offers a different and unique appearance to this store. At the ‘Contractor Appreciation Night,’ many people were commenting about the appearance of the floors and were asking questions regarding whether something like this could be done at their own homes. Cabela’s typically attracts new businesses to area where they locate. Cabela’s will have a very large positive impact on the economy for Northwest Indiana. One of the most striking accomplishments of this building is the ground, stained, and sealed, polished floors and walkways. The entire appearance of the store is unique, but doing something unique with concrete floors sets this building apart from others. A total of 4,422.75 cubic yards was used in this project.

IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
