OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to Community Hospital North Expansion in Indianapolis
The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Public/Institutional, Community Health Network won for their Community Hospital North Expansion.
This project team for the Community Hospital North Expansion project is the Owner: Community Health Network, the Engineering firm: BSA LifeStructures, the Architectural firm: RTKL, the General Contractor: Summit Construction Co., Inc. the Concrete Finisher: Baker Concrete Co., and the ready mix producer: Irving Materials, Inc.
The Community Hospital Network and Summit Construction Co., Inc. were challenged with completing a $170 million expansion including 350,00 square foot six-story patient tower, professional office building, connecting walkways/sky bridge and a five-story 1,000 space parking garage in only 28 months. Multiple contractors and suppliers were involved and communication was facilitated by use of a phone system and a website that served as a central source for all proposals, schedules, contracts, etc. There were more than 10,000 cubic yards of concrete and 3,300 tons of structural steel used for the structure's radius shape and a variety of angles necessary in the relationship to the existing hospital and corresponding structures and connecting walkways. The multi-faceted, multi-phased nature of this project, coupled with an aggressive ‘fast-track’ schedule made it an exceptional challenge. The interior courtyard within the existing hospital had to be in-filled for expansion and relocation.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. |
