OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to Endress + Hauser Flowtec AG in Greenwood
The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Commercial Building Projects, the winner was the Endress + Hauser Flowtec AG located in Greenwood.
The project team is the owner/developer: Endress + Hauser Flowtec AG, the Engineering and Architectural firms: Force Design, Inc., the General Contractor and Concrete Finisher: Force Construction Co., Inc., and the ready mix producer: Shelby Materials.
The design and construction of the facility involved high levels of construction and manufacturing technology. Concrete materials included in the project were a two—foot thick structural basement slab for the testing lab and reservoir area. Structural walls for the reservoir utilized a concrete mixture incorporating integral Xypex waterproofing. A two-foot thick structural slab above the basement and reservoir areas connected with the at-grade slab of the 60,000 square foot office and manufacturing facility. This slab was designed with a 50 percent Portland cement – 50 percent ground blast furnace slag blend along with synthetic fiber reinforcing. Combined with the UltraCure single wet curing blankets, shrinking and cracking were virtually eliminated. A perimeter concrete wainscot wall for the plant area utilized special formwork by eliminating visible form joints and wall ties, providing a very smooth wall surface with architectural rustication joints. Architectural concrete panels utilized on the office area were pre-cast on site, including structural steel embeds. The panels were removed from their casting beds on a tightly time-controlled basis. Special care was taken to use limestone aggregate for consistent color and to minimize the chance of “pop-outs”. A total of 4,970 cubic yards was used in this project.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. |
