| OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Presented to Fowler Ridge Wind Farm Benton County The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2008 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on January 13, 2009 at the Indianapolis East Marriott. In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Other, the winner is the Fowler Ridge Wind Farm located in Benton County This project team for the Fowler Ridge Wind Farm is the owner: BP Alternative Energy, the General Contractor: Wind Connect, the Concrete Finisher: Sanderfoot Masonry, and the Ready Mix Producer: Attica Ready Mix The Fowler Ridge Wind Farm consists of 222 wind turbines – a major step in the direction of energy independence for our state as well as our country. Each turbine required several steps to complete each structure. First, after the evacuation process, a mud matt was poured to secure the foundation and make sure the ground could support the structure. Then a base was poured utilizing heavy steel reinforcement. The concrete is 7 feet high and about 30 feet in diameter. Last, there is a pedestal that is poured and finished – ready to accept the windmill components. The process from beginning to end required a well planned scheduling of all materials to produce concrete as it was possible to be pouring different stages at different turbine sites daily. The site has been used in British Petroleum and Orion Energy advertisements nationally. This project used approximately 111,000 cubic yards of concrete. IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. | | |
