| OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Presented to The Gem by Treasure Homes Burns Harbor, Indiana The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2009 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on January 19, 2010 at the Indianapolis Marriott North at Keystone at the Crossing in Indianapolis, Indiana. In the category of Concrete Residential Projects: Other, one of the winners is The Gem by Treasure Homes. The project team is Treasure Homes, Inc., Paul Hundt Concrete Contractor, Inc., and the ready mix producer, Ozinga Ready Mix Concrete, Inc. The Gem by Treasure Homes, located in Burns Harbor in NW Indiana. The concrete in this home is synergistic in the respect that it is an important part of a green system. The home was built to be part of the nation’s first single site Green Homes on Parade. Each home will be certified as a “Green Built Home” with at least a silver level by the National Association of Home Builders. In the interior, the full depth basement is an ICF foundation using 30 cubic yards of 3000 psi ¾” limestone concrete. A section of pervious concrete in the driveway is a major part of the home’s answer to stormwater management, using Ozinga’s branded pervious concrete: Filtercrete. The ADA Handicap ramp was also constructed of pervious concrete. The use of pervious concrete in the ramp is an innovative idea, and one that should work. It did help achieve a Green Built Home status. The home was displayed after exterior finishing, but before drywall was installed, to help educate consumers on concrete’s “greenness”. There were approximately 82 cubic yards of concrete used in the home. IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. | | |
