| OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Presented to Goshen Hospital, Goshen, Indiana The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2008 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on January 13, 2009 at the Indianapolis East Marriott. In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Pervious, the winner is the Goshen Hospital located in Northern Indiana. The project team is the Project Owner: the Goshen General Hospital, the Engineering Firm: Engineering Resources, Inc., the General Contractor: Weigand Construction, Inc., the Concrete Finisher: Rieth-Riley Construction Co., Inc., and the Ready Mix Producer: Kuert Concrete, Inc. The Goshen General Hospital was planning to put in a parking lot next to a residential area for employee and visitor parking. The city of Goshen and the surrounding neighbors insisted that all water runoff be contained on site. To maximize parking, it was decided that pervious concrete was the best solution. On April 7, 2008 the project started – and was completed on July 28, 2008 – 22 days ahead of schedule. A total of 1398 cubic yards of pervious concrete was poured making this the largest pervious pour in the state. In September, 2008 we received more than eight inches of rain in a 24 hour period and the pervious concrete handled it successfully. Goshen Hospital, the City of Goshen, and the surrounding neighborhood is very happy with the finished project. This project has created a lot of interest in pervious concrete in the area and pervious concrete has been used on several jobs already. IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. | | |
