OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to Harrah’s Entertainment for the Horseshoe Casino Expansion
in Hammond,Indiana
The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Commercial Building Projects, Harrah’s Entertainment won for their Horseshoe Casino Expansion in Hammond, Indiana.
The project team is the owner/developer: Harrah’s Entertainment, the Architectural firm: Friedmutter Group Architects, the General contractor: Pepper Construction and concrete finisher: Concrete Constructors, and the ready mix producer: Ozinga Indiana RMC, Inc.
The casino is a new casino boat which consists of six barges put together. All of the floors are lightweight concrete. Concrete had to be pumped as far as 800 feet from the pump on three different levels. With winter quickly moving in and with the boat on Lake Michigan, the schedule was quickly accelerated to try and complete the 6400 cubic yards of concrete floors before snow and cold temperatures set in. The mix had to be designed to meet a 3500 psi requirement and be able to pump this mix three floors and 800 feet. It was started in mid-September and finished in mid-November. The new, much larger casino boat offers gamblers more opportunities for gambling. With the new boat, many jobs were created and should create additional jobs not only at the Horseshoe, but hopefully for additional businesses that may be established in Hammond.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. |
