| OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Presented to The Keystone Avenue Roundabout Interchanges at 106th St. and 126th St. Carmel, Indiana The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2009 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on January 19, 2010 at the Indianapolis Marriott North at Keystone at the Crossing in Indianapolis, Indiana. In the category of Concrete Infrastructure Projects - Bridges, the winner is the Keystone Avenue Roundabout Interchanges at 106th St. and 126th St. located in Carmel, Indiana. The project team is the City of Carmel, American Structurepoint, Milestone Contractors, LP, Smock Fansler Construction, Jobsite Supply and ready mix producer, Shelby Materials. This was the first of a multi-phase alteration of major intersections along Keystone Avenue in Carmel. It included converting to roundabout style intersections at each end of a new bridge that included decorative truck aprons, walks, bridge plazas and medians. The decorative elements were comprised of three individuals colors and patterns separated by sinuous bands of gray concrete, most of which also serves as a structural, reinforced topping slab for the pedestrian areas of the bridge decks. Nearly all 28,100 square feet of this project was placed under live traffic conditions, within a tight schedule. The road closure window was only long enough to erect bridges, lower Keystone Avenue, and build up the approach ramps. The decorative work on both bridges was done simultaneously with two full crews in order to meet the final deadline. IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. | | |
