OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented for the Kosciusko REMC
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2006 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 5, 2006 at the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects - Commercial Building Projects, the winning project is the Kosciusko REMC.The Kosciusko REMC project consists of an office building, just under 20,000 square feet, with its exterior walls made of a 13” wide insulated concrete forming system and a geothermal heating system. Attached to the office building is a 50,100 square foot warehouse/shop building using geo-thermo heating loops cast into the floor.
Using this system, the Kosciusko REMC has reduced their energy consumption by more than half. In the warehouse, when an overhead door opens during winter, there is virtually no noticeable heat-loss when the door closes, plus, you do not hear any heating system kick on.
Their thought is 'Because of Concrete’s excellent heat sync values, it makes sense to think green and mutually benefit our environment and establish a base for future development.'
The project team for the Kosciusko REMC is the owner: Kosciusko REMC, the engineering firm: Robinson Construction and Malcolm & Associate, the architectural firm: Malcolm & Associates, the general contractor: Robinson Construction, Inc., the concrete finisher: Heiman Constructions, Inc. and the ready mix producer: Kuert Concrete.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
