In the category of Concrete Infrastructure Projects, Parking Lots under 500 Cubic Yards, one of the winning projects is Kuert Concrete's Corporate Parking Lot located in South Bend. Recipients include the following individuals and/or organizations: Kuert Concrete, Inc., and L.L. Geans Construction Co.
Kuert Concrete, Inc., needed to replace its current parking area. Their corporate headquarters wanted to demonstrate the versatility, design, and performance of various concrete applications. The first task was to get rid of the dry wells (storm water management device) in their current parking lot and replace them with 42 cubic yards of pervious concrete pavement. By capturing the rainwater and allowing it to seep into the ground, under the parking area – this eliminated the need for any retention devices as well as meets US EPA storm water regulations. The main parking area of 459 cubic yards was poured using a 4000 psi mix, which was designed with synthetic structural fibers to replace the welded wire mesh and to reinforce the steel in the slab on grade. The end result was a crack free surface. The next task was to highlight the parking area by using Kuert's Liquid Color CAM System. This was accomplished in two different areas: the first was in the pervious concrete pavement and the second was in the main entrance along the building to the rear parking garage. They decided to showcase stamped and decorative concrete in several different patterns and colors that would include an exposed aggregate application. This parking area has become a showcase in the northern Indiana construction community. Replacing their parking area in this way gives Kuert an increased property value, with a light reflective parking area and much less maintenance and labor costs over the next decades. A total of 459 cubic yards of concrete was used in this project. |
