OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to the Lighthouse Academies of Indiana
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2006 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 5, 2006 at the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott.
The winner of the Concrete Infrastructure Project - Pervious goes to Lighthouse Academies of Indiana. Gariup Construction had a total of ninety three days to demolish an existing school, construct a new school, pour the Pervious Concrete, and have the school ready to open on August 28, 2006. It was accomplished!
With stormwater issues becoming a major concern for municipalities, shopping centers, and residential subdivision, many of these issues are resolved with Pervious Concrete. Land that would have been set aside for retention ponds, can instead be used for homes or additional buildings which translates into more cash for the developer, and less of a drain on wastewater treatment plants for municipalities.
With the assistance of IRMCA, a mix was designed that was placed and compacted for the parking lot. This project created such interest, that the City of Chicago spent a morning at the site as two of the bays were being poured. They, along with the city of Gary, are reviewing future projects and considering Pervious Concrete for these projects. A total of 568.50 cubic yards was used on this project. The Pervious parking lot is the largest of its kind in Northwest Indiana.
This project team is the owner/developer: Lighthouse Academies of Indiana, the engineering firm: Plumb Tucket, the architectural firm: Gerometta & Kinel Architects, general contractor and concrete finish: Gariup Construction and the ready mix producer: Ozinga Indiana.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
