OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to the City of Marion for the
Marion Splash House in Marion, Indiana
The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Patterned/Decorative, the City of Marion won for the Marion Splash House. The project team for the Marion Splash House is the owner: the City of Marion., the engineering firm: American Structure Point, the architectural firm: Ratio, the General Contractor: Brandt Const., the Concrete Finisher: Concrete Connection and the ready mix producer: Irving Materials, Inc.
The project at the Marion Splash House had many concrete features. To start the project the Lazy River and Zero entry portion of the pool was done with a Shot Crete concrete which was applied using an air application. The deck of the pool area was done with a 4000 psi concrete that had a retarder placed on it prior to washing the surface to allow for an exposed sand finish. Flowable fill was used to stabilize soils, Shot Crete Concrete was used for pool floor & walls, pervious concrete was used to drain pool deck and a release agent was used to make a sand matrix finish on the deck. A total of 3,000 cubic yards was used. The use of pervious and decorative concrete has spurred interest in other areas of Marion to use these products. The City of Marion is excited by how the overall project turned out.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. |
