OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to Premier Properties
for the Metropolis Lifestyle Center
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2006 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 5, 2006 at the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott.
A winner in the Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects Patterned/Decorative Category is the Metropolis Lifestyle Center. The project team is the owner/developer: Premier Properties, the engineering firm: Deail/Nasr, the architectural firm: JPRA Architects, the general contractor: Pepper Construction Company of Indiana, the concrete finisher: Smock Fansler Corporation and the ready mixed producer: Irving Materials, Inc.
The Metropolis is a new open-air lifestyle center. Pepper construction was in charge of all the sitework and the 13 main buildings on the 52-acre site. The fast track project was started in January of 2005 and had a grand opening celebration on Oct. 26, 2005. The collective shopping environment integrates Metropolis Lifestyle Center and the adjacent Plainfield Commons Power Center. Most of the buildings are structural steel with masonry exteriors, and some feature EFIS. Single-level buildings have a double volume space and blend office space with retail. The Central Promenade features open-air stages and gathering spaces enhanced by natural gas elements and lighting.
Thirteen thousand yards of concrete were used in this project, 600 yards of this concrete was colored, and all of the sidewalks that are not colored have an exposed weathered surface appearance. This project shows the versatility that concrete can have to build a functional and beautiful development.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
