OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to Michigan City for their Street, Curb, and Sidewalk Renovation
The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Pervious, the City of Michigan City won for their Street, Curb, and Sidewalk Renovation.
This project team for the Street, Curb, and Sidewalk Renovation is the owner/developer: the City of Michigan City, the Engineering firm: Hass & Associates, the General Contractor: Woodruff & Sons, the Concrete Finisher: Walker Construction, and the ready mix producer: Smith Ready Mix.
This project was a part of a complete downtown street renovation and included using flowable fill in a covered underground area. Pervious concrete was used to build new curbs and sidewalks and the pervious concrete used in the parkways was also colored. Using this pervious concrete helped to contribute to Michigan City becoming a ‘Green’ City. This type of concrete helps them fulfill their stormwater management requirements and puts pervious in the eye of the public for better awareness of alternative methods for both paving and stormwater solutions. There was a total of 100 cubic yards used in this project.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. |
