OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to the City of Noblesville
for the Noblesville Alley Project

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2006 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 5, 2006 at the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott.

In the category of Concrete Infrastructure Projects: Patterned/Decorative, the winning project is the Noblesville Alley Project. This project team for the Noblesville Alley Project is the City of Noblesville, the Concrete finisher: Cazares Concrete and the ready mix producer: Beaver Materials.

The City of Noblesville is committed to creating an atmosphere conducive to downtown pedestrian traffic, shopping and entertainment. Several downtown properties have been, or will be, in the process of revitalization.

While addressing the problem of parking, Noblesville worked with Beaver Materials on a solution and decided to use decorative stamped concrete that would match their current downtown star brick pavers sidewalks, without the expense of real brick pavers. They started on the alley on the south side of the square between 8th and 9th Streets to see how this plan would work.  The old broken up asphalt was removed and replaced with the new decorative concrete. The city also installed new decorative lighting consistent with the rest of the downtown square. The city decided to close the alley to vehicle traffic and it is now a beautiful pathway to the ample parking behind the businesses.

This project used 47 cubic yards of stamped decorative concrete that was color matched to the existing brick pavers. There is also an exposed pea gravel aggregate that helps this project provide a safe means of entry to and from parking areas and creates a showcase of decorative concrete that people will use and appreciate daily.

IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
