OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to Hartrich Becknell Construction
for the Northwind Crossings, Lot A Project
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2006 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 5, 2006 at the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects – Tilt Up, one of the winning projects is the Northwind Crossings, Lot A located in Hobart, Indiana. The project team for Northwind Crossings, Lot A is the owner/developer and general contractor: Hartrich Becknell Construction, the engineering firm: Torrenga Engineering, Inc., the architectural firm: Craig Kouri Architects LTD, the concrete finisher: Dyer Construction and the ready mix producer: Ozinga Indiana RMC, Inc.
The north building had to be completed in 90 days. The project got off to a late start due to the frequent heavy spring rains that Northwest Indiana experienced. Even with rain delays, both the north and south buildings were completed ahead of schedule. These tilt-up buildings are attractive and architecturally offer a structure that is durable and very appealing to the area.
Several weeks after the slabs were poured, the wall panels were cast. Before raising any panels, 2800 psi had to be attained, which was typically achieved in 5-7 days. Conveyors were used to place the concrete in the wall forms. A total of 4111 Cubic yards of concrete was used in the project.
Tilt-up is becoming more acceptable to the market. Owners are realizing the long term cost savings available to them and that tilt-ups are no longer just for warehouses, schools, hospitals, and churches.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
