OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.

In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Commercial Building Projects, Duke Realty Corporation won for Parkwood One West, located in Indianapolis.

The project team is the owner/developer: Duke Realty Corporation, the Engineering firm: Haris Engineering, the Architectural firm: CSO Schenkel Schultz, the General Contractor: Duke Construction, L.P., the Concrete Finisher: Smock Fansler Construction and the ready mix producer: Irving Materials, Inc.

Parkwood One West consists of a Class A 5-story office building, in which approximately 4,200 cubic yards of concrete was placed on slab-on-grade and slab-on-deck. Type III cement was used in the slab-on-deck pours due to the cold temperatures during the winter of 2006-2007.
The parking garage consisted of pre-topped precast double tees, with concrete washed. Approximately 2,900 cubic yards of concrete was used for the foundations, slab-on-grade, and washes.

The exterior concrete consisted of a concrete mix that used fiber reinforcing, instead of wire mesh, and included Scofield color additives. The integral colors, Tawny Pink and Dark Gray were given particular care so that the colors did not stain each other. The design was organized in longitudinal bands 5’ wide and 23’ wide and 345’ long. Bands were placed north to south using knock down bulkheads and/or boom trucks to accommodate the alternating colors.

IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
