OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to
PEI – Genesis in South Bend, Indiana
The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Commercial Building Project, PEI – Genesis won for their North American Distribution Facility, located in South Bend.
The project team is the owner/developer: PEI-GENESIS, the Architectural firm: Panzica Architecture Group, the General contractor: Panzica Construction Group and the concrete finisher: Heiman Construction, Inc., and the ready mix producer: Kuert Concrete.
Concrete played a primary role in the development of an affordable, high quality, low maintenance electronic assembly and distribution facility. Concrete was used for precast walls, foundations and specialty floor slabs. Ready mix concrete was provided as integral colored decorative polished concrete slabs in the employee support areas, and a partial white cement mix was used for the 140,000 square foot polished warehouse and production floor. The use of ready mix concrete provides a long lasting, durable and easy to maintain floor finish for beauty and a highly reflective finish to improve lighting levels in the shop/warehouse areas. The project is significant to the area because it introduces a new role for concrete in the industrial segment of construction. When visitors walk into the new plant, and see the almost ‘wet’ bright look of the floor which always engenders a ‘wow’ response. A total of 2,680 cubic yards was used in this project. Approximately 2,600 cubic yards were of partial white cement mix and 80 cubic yards of integral colored concrete mix.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. |
