OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to Purdue University for EcoPave ‘Pervious Concrete Parking Lot’
In West Lafayette
The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Pervious, Purdue University won for their EcoPave ‘Pervious Concrete Parking Lot’.
This project team for the EcoPave ‘Pervious Concrete Parking Lot’ is the owner/developer: Purdue University, the Engineering firm: Schneider Corporation, the General Contractor THF Inc., the Concrete Finisher: Winco and the ready mix producer: Irving Materials, Inc.
With more and more regulations to control stormwater on new developments the use of “EcoPave”, or pervious concrete, is a vital component in Purdue’s quest to find building applications that could significantly impact their green effort. Pervious concrete utilizes the paved surface as a bio-filter for stormwater control, thus reducing harmful contamination from entering our water supplies. It also reduces the heat island effect by utilizing concrete as a pavement which is significantly cooler than asphalt. The pavement ‘drinks’ the water due to its 15-25 percent void space so the concrete has little or no standing or shedding water during rain storms so it is safer to walk and drive upon. There were more than 400 cubic yards of pervious concrete used in the project.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. |
