OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation
for the Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2006 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 5, 2006 at the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects - Public/Institutional, one of three winning projects is the Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center. The 262,000 square foot Center is the hub for the development and delivery of innovative, leading-edge career and technical education and workforce development for the entire Southern Indiana/Tri-state region.
The concrete alone sets the Center apart from any other educational facility in the country. All told, there were nearly 8000 cubic yards of concrete used to build the Center. Nearly 2000 yards of the concrete was decorative in nature. A total of nine different colors (five integral and four acid stains) were used to brighten this $43 million dollar facility. Weddle Brothers and Edwards Concrete Construction paid special attention to weather conditions throughout the project to insure that color uniformity would be at its best. Weddles Brothers and quality control personnel from Irving Materials, Inc. monitored slumps constantly to keep the pours and colors consistent from start to finish.
The project team for the Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center is the owner/developer: Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, the engineering firm: Veazey Parrott Durkin & Shoulders, the general contractor: Weddle Brothers, the concrete finisher: Weddle Brothers/Edwards Concrete, and the ready mix producer: Irving Materials, Inc.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
