OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to
Ball State University for the Scheumann Stadium Renovation Project

The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.

In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Public/Institutional, Ball State University won for their Scheumann Stadium Renovation Project.

The project team for Scheumann Stadium Renovation Project is the owner: Ball State University, the engineering firm: Circle Design, the architectural firm: Browning, Day, Mullins & Dierdorf, the general contractor and concrete finisher: Shook Construction and the ready mix producer: Irving Materials, Inc.

This project needed to be completed by the start of the 2007 season & could not start before the end of the 2006 season. With so many areas to work: walls, steps, elevator shafts, elevated decks, columns and slab on grade, the general contractor worked two shifts, sometimes 6-7 days a week so as to complete on schedule. There were so many varied uses of concrete that BSU again sees the value of concrete as a valuable construction material. This project was on schedule for the completion date and the elevator shaft pours completed every other day used 11 stone and accelerators to achieve early strengths so they could continue.  This was a complete renovation of facility, new field buildings, press boxes and box seats. Approximately  3,430 Cubic yards of concrete were used on this project.

IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
