OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Indiana University for Simon Hall in Bloomington, Indiana
The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Cast-in-Place Frame Projects, Indiana University won for Simon Hall, located on the IU Bloomington Campus.
The project team for the Simon Hall is the owner: Indiana University, the engineering and architectural firm: FLAD & Assoc., the general contractor and concrete finisher: F.A. Wilhelm, and the Ready mix producer was: Irving Materials, Inc.
This project is shoehorsed between existing buildings on the IU campus and the construction team had to have an escort in and out throughout the project. It is a five story cast-in-place building using 140,000 square feet of concrete. It is the center for Genonics and Bioinformatic, Protromics Center, Biochemistry, biophysics, Program, shared instrumentation facilities. It also contains administrative offices and conference space. This building is sited among the most historic buildings on campus and maintains and complements the distinctive architectural style of the surrounding Halls.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. |
