OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to the City of Fort Wayne, B.O.W., for the South Wayne Avenue
Pavement Reconstruction Phase II

The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.

In the category of Concrete Infrastructure Projects: Municipal Streets, one of the winners was the City of Fort Wayne, B.O.W., for the South Wayne Avenue Pavement Reconstruction Phase II.

The project team for South Wayne Ave., Pavement Reconstruction Phase II is the owner: City of Fort Wayne, B.O.W, the Engineering firm: Transportation Engineering Services, The General Contractor and concrete finisher: Hipskind Concrete Corp. and the ready mix producer: Erie Haven, Inc.

This project included the removal of the existing pavement, stone base, curbing, handicap ramps and storm water inlets from a one-third of a mile stretch of South Wayne Ave. New storm water inlets, manholes and pipes were installed and a new stone base was placed. The concrete crew formed and poured 6,410 square yards of new seven-inch concrete pavement, 2,500 lineal feet of new 6” x 6” concrete curbing, and 300 square yards of wing-walks, and handicap ramps were installed in 16 working days. In order to minimize the inconvenience to the neighborhood, a non-chlorinated accelerator was added to the concrete, even when the daytime temperatures were above 90 degrees. All disturbed areas were backfilled with new topsoil and seeded, with the entire project completed in 30 calendar days.

IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
