OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

for State Road 37 R-26832-A in Indianapolis

The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.

In the category of Concrete Infrastructure Projects: State Primary Roads, The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) won for their State Road 37 R-26832-A in Indianapolis.

The project team for State Road 37 R-26832-A is the owner: The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), The General Contractor and concrete finisher: Reith Riley and the ready mix producer: Builder’s Concrete & Supply, Inc.

This project consists of road replacement. Travel lanes were added and the use of 24 hour high early R-mix at all intersections was used to limit the construction down time at Indianapolis’ most busy intersections that support major truck stops and numerous high volume heavy highway traffic. The 24 hour high early concrete reached the needed 550 psi in less than 18 hours which enabled the sequential construction of multiple lanes at all three intersections ─ Thompson, Harding & Epler. Builder’s designed the mix to reach the psi goals. Area truck stops and business were updated on the schedule. Two lanes of traffic were maintained in both north and south bound traffic at all times. A state-of-the-art variable width pavers was used on turn lanes. As well as the partnership with INDOT, communication about the project was maintained with radio and TV announcements. There was 26,000 cubic yards of concrete used in this project, with 3,200 cubic yards being a 24 hour mix.

IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
