In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial, Commercial Building Projects, one of the winning projects was the WalMart Supercenter located in Plainfield. Recipients included the following individuals and/or organizations: WalMart, Wallace Engineering, Scott & Goble Architects, S.C. Nestel, Dan Johnson Construction and Builder's Concrete & Supply Co.
The new Walmart Supercenter located in Plainfield used nearly 7,400 cubic yards of concrete for the building foundations, slabs, and sitwork – walks/curbs.
The main sales floor for this store is exposed colored concrete. The colored concrete was poured in seven separate pours starting around 3:30 a.m. for each pour. This was a unique portion of the project, because consistent coloring of the concrete had to be maintained since this was going to be the finished product. The contractor used a laser screed to strike off the concrete and to help meet the flatness requirements set forth by the owner. |
