OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to WB Resort Operations LLC for the West Baden Springs
Hotel Natatorium in West Baden, Indiana

The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.

In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Patterned/Decorative, WB Resort Operations LLC, won for the West Baden Springs Hotel Natatorium.

The project team for the West Baden Springs Hotel Natatorium is the owner/developer: WB Resort Operations LLC, the engineering firm: Silver Creek Engineering, Inc., the architectural firm: G.S. Ridgeway & Associates, Inc., the General Contractor: CFC Const., LLC, the Concrete Finisher: Taylor Concrete and the ready mix producer: Irving Materials Southwest, Inc.

Once considered the 8th wonder of the world, the West Baden Springs Hotel went under major renovation in February of 2006. With the great addition of the new French Lick Casino, the West Baden Dome was in need of an indoor/outdoor pool. Plans were then underway for a new Natatorium Building. Stamped and stained concrete were chosen over regular finished concrete to decorate the floor of the new pool structure. Smokey Buff integral color was chosen for the base color, while dark walnut acid stain was chosen to highlight the two-toned floor. Four pours were made to stamp a total of 100 cubic yards of Smokey Buff colored concrete, with the largest pour being 35 yards.  A clear liquid release was then applied before using textured mats to stamp the concrete. Later the floor was cut into two-foot diamonds and then stained using Dark Walnut acid stain. With a different technique being used on every other square, the same Dark Walnut stain was used to give a ‘checker board’ effect.

IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers.
