OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to the City of Muncie for their
Wheeling Avenue Cantilever Walkway
The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Patterned/Decorative, the City of Muncie won for their Wheeling Avenue Cantilever Walkway.
The project team for the Wheeling Avenue Cantilever Walkway is the owner/developer: the City of Muncie., the engineering firm: Beam Longest & Neff, the general contractor and concrete finisher: Primco, Inc. and the ready mix producer: Irving Materials, Inc.
This project in Muncie replaced old deteriorating walls and walks along Wheeling Avenue. It ties together two portions of the White River Greenway trail, previously not connected. From the decorative walls to the stamped concrete on the overlooks, this project truly changed the looks of Wheeling Avenue. With the increased use of trails today this walkway shows the versatility of concrete. From the decorative walls to the stamped concrete on the overlooks, the many uses of concrete are highlighted. This project was finished three months ahead of schedule as the completion of a Greenway Trial. The walls were poured with 11 stone and micro silica and all backfilling done with flowable fill (273 yds). The entire project used 2,672 cubic yards of concrete.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. |
