OUTSTANDING CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to the City of Noblesville for their
Noblesville WWTP Phase 1 Improvements Project
The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) presented the 2007 Outstanding Concrete Achievement Awards for projects in the State of Indiana on December 11, 2007 at the Indianapolis East Marriott.
In the category of Concrete Commercial & Industrial Projects: Industrial Projects, the City of Noblesville won for their Noblesville WWTP Phase 1 Improvements project.
The project team for Noblesville WWTP Phase 1 Improvements is the Project Owner: City of Noblesville, the Engineering Firm: HNTB, the design partner: R.W. Armstrong, the General Contractor and Concrete finisher: Bowen Engineering Corp., and the Ready Mix Producer: Builder’s Concrete & Supply, Inc.
This project consisted of the construction of eight flow equalization tanks and two grit collection tanks. The flow equalization tanks had elevated walkways for city workers to be able to observe and maintain all of the tanks once complete. Numerous blockouts for future equipment, water control gates, piping, and weirs were formed in the structure and concrete cast around. A 128 foot long one sided form wall twelve to fifteen feet tall was formed and placed. One 600 cubic yard slab pour was made and the walls were scheduled to wreck set and pour three sections of wall for a total of 120 lineal feet of wall each day.
Two elevated flow channels were also formed and placed on each end of the tank. All of the concrete, except for the slab, was poured with the Xypex waterproofing system added into the concrete mix at the batch plant. This was a value engineered part of the project. This eliminated having to spray the waterproofing on the walls as is usually done and saved schedule and coordination time. The grit collection tanks were constructed with numerous elevated decks and different levels to allow water to flow through the structure and remove grit. This structure also had the Xypex waterproofing system added into the concrete mix at the plant. Both structures were then sprayed with Chem Seal for a decorative finish on the exposed areas of the tanks. Two hundred tons of reinforcing steel was also installed in the structures.
IRMCA presents these awards to recognize extensive application or imaginative use of concrete; and to honor the accomplishments of project owners, architects, engineers, contractors, owners and ready mixed concrete producers. |
