At the IRMCA Winter Mixer, members, partners, and industry leaders gathered not only to celebrate achievements across our industry, but to recognize a legacy that has shaped ready mix and cement professionals across Indiana and beyond.
This year, the Carl D. Franks Award was presented posthumously to Michael L. Collins. His wife, Rachelle Collins, accepted the award on his behalf, representing both the professional impact Mike made and the personal connections he built throughout his career.
The Carl D. Franks Award honors cement producers and recognizes individuals who have dedicated their careers to promoting concrete and strengthening the ready mix industry. Like Carl D. Franks himself, Mike embodied the spirit of service, innovation, and industry advocacy.
Michael Collins was widely known for his technical knowledge, leadership, and willingness to support others. Within IRMCA, he played a critical role in advancing technical education and industry understanding. Many will remember Technical Education meetings where Mike was the only one present but still engaged, and ready to help solve challenges alongside IRMCA Staff.
Beyond technical knowledge, Mike was a true leader in every sense of the word. He cared deeply for people. He encouraged others to grow professionally and personally. He introduced colleagues to new ideas, new resources, and new ways of thinking about both the industry and life.
Mike always helped to elevate those around him. He mentored. He guided. He listened. His influence extended across companies, roles, and generations of industry professionals. Many members of IRMCA can point to moments where Mike’s insight, encouragement, or leadership helped shape their path.
His presence, his wisdom, and his commitment to the ready mix and cement industries will be felt for years to come.
In recognition of Mike’s extraordinary impact, the IRMCA Board of Directors made a meaningful decision during this year’s award presentation. Beginning in 2027, this honor will be renamed the Michael L. Collins Lifetime Achievement Award.
This award renaming ensures that Michael's legacy continues to inspire future generations of industry leaders. It recognizes not only his technical contributions, but also his leadership, mentorship, and commitment to strengthening both people and industry.
Mike believed in lifting others up. This award will continue that mission by recognizing individuals who demonstrate long term dedication, leadership, and impact within the ready mix and cement industries.
Michael is and will continue to be deeply missed. His influence will live on through the people he mentored, the programs he supported, and now, through an award that will carry his name forward.
The IRMCA Winter Mixer is always a time to celebrate the people and progress that move our industry forward. This year, it was also a moment to pause and honor a life that made our industry stronger, smarter, and more connected.
