IRMCA Announces 2025 Concrete Mixer Driver Champion

FISHERS, Ind. (July 21, 2025) – Today, the Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association announced a Frankfort concrete mixer truck driver as the winner of the 2025 Indiana Mixer Driver Championship. Jon Sheets drives for Irving Materials, Inc. The IRMCA Mixer Driver Championship is the qualifying event for the annual National Concrete Mixer Driver Championship. The comprehensive event includes a 50-question written exam, a truck inspection assessment, and a 10-station challenge course.

"This competition is more than just a challenge, it also shows how important our work is in Indiana," said Sheets, who has ten years of driving experience. "We deliver the concrete that builds Indiana, and it's great to be part of a company and an event that recognizes that. It means a lot to win this year. There were a lot of great drivers competing."

Finishing in second place was Justin LaPorte of Hebron, who drives for Smith Ready Mix and in third place was Josh Heffernan of Muncie, who drives for Irving Materials, Inc. This year's competition had 17 drivers with a combined 184 years of commercial driving experience.
The IRMCA Mixer Driver Competition began in 2005. The event builds company, industry and state spirit, and recognizes IRMCA member employees. Indiana is a top 15 concrete-producing state with more than five million yards of concrete poured in 2024.

“The Mixer Driver Championship is one of IRMCA’s proudest traditions because it recognizes the skilled professionals who deliver the most-used product to build Indiana — ready mixed concrete,” said IRMCA Executive Director Chad Montgomery. “These drivers are the face of our industry. We brought together the top talent from across the state, and the competition was impressive. Congratulations to Jon on earning this year’s title — we’re excited to have him represent Indiana on the national stage this fall.”

To be eligible for the competition, a driver must be a current employee of IRMCA member companies in good standing and must hold a valid CDL (Class A or B) and a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate. The 2025 state competition was held by IRMCA on Saturday, July 19, outside the recently completed Fishers Event Center in Fishers. Sheets will now compete in the National Mixer Driver Championship hosted by the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, which takes place Saturday, Oct. 10, during NRMCA’s 2025 ConcreteWorks in Orlando.

More than 115 drivers are expected to compete in the event, where the top five finishers will all take home cash prizes.
IRMCA’s mission is to expand the use of ready-mixed concrete while delivering value, safety, and sustainability for the benefit of Indiana.
